I apologize for the lack of updates on my blog this week. I don’t have a good excuse other than I don’t know what to write about. I need to start brainstorming and jotting down ideas when something pops into my head to blog about.
Life in Murfreesboro has been crazy this last week. No joking at all. Earlier in the week, right before Halloween, actually, a student on MTSU’s campus was stuck by a hypodermic needle when she reached into a vending machine (outside Peck Hall where I have my history class, none-the-less) to retrieve her change.
The MTSU police said it was believed to be an isolated event. That is, until two days ago when another student was stabbed with a hypodermic needle in a different building.
Sounds pretty scary if you ask me. I’ve never used a vending machine on campus, and now I plan to never use one for as long as I’m a student. What kind of sicko puts needles into vending machines so other people get stabbed? Lunatics!
Yesterday, another bizarre thing happened. In the early morning hours, there was a dumpster fire across the street from the Murphy Center (on MTSU’s campus) at Nottingham Apartments. When the MFD went to put out the fire, they found a charred body in the dumpster. What? Reports are saying that they don’t suspect foul play, but I’m not sure why or how someone ended up in a dumpster dead and burned. How could that not be foul play? What is the coincidence that someone happened to decide to set the dumpster on fire and there was somebody, presumably already dead, in there?
Lastly, another weird thing: a massive amount of police were called to our apartment complex yesterday around 4:30. I initially ran into all the police on the road on Middle Tennessee Boulevard, saw they were headed toward our complex, but thought they drove by it. Apparently not. Upon arriving home, I was sitting in the living room with our sliding glass door open and heard a cop on his loud speaker say, “Please remain inside. Please remain inside. K9 unit on the property.”
As you can imagine, being home alone since Brett was in class, I was pretty freaking scared. In today’s newspaper, it says there was a home invasion in our complex, but the man who had reported the crime had also been arrested. Apparently it was some sort of drug-deal gone bad and he tried to say that three men broke into his apartment and put a gun to his head.
I know that our complex is kinda sketchy, but seriously? What the hell? We don’t live near the apartment where this went down since this is such a huge complex, but I’m not feeling too safe here. Too bad we can’t afford a nicer (and bigger) place, haha.
Murfreesboro has kind of erupted in violence this week and I’m not really sure why. Is it the weather changing? The economy? People just slowly evolving into becoming even more unintelligent?
I’d like to believe that people aren’t intrinsically bad, but I think that in the end, that notion might be a little naive.

it was the full moon!!! It was crazy on my vacation and at work when I got back, Tuesday was the worst.
A lot of people are getting more and more scared due to the H1N1 and the recession. Plus the holidays bring a lot of people down. Stay safe!
It’s crazy! Middle Tennessee is quite an economically depressed area due to the Spring Hill GM factory laying off a lot of people and I think a lot of people are scrambling for jobs everywhere they can. Murfreesboro is about 20 miles east of Spring Hill too. I can see why people in my complex are selling drugs – it’s more profitable than having a real job, especially with a lot of students living in the area. Ugh, maybe the craziness will die down a little. I don’t go out at night by myself, and keep all the doors and windows locked, and am so paranoid about answering the door that last week, I accidentally locked Brett out, didn’t recognize him, and then hid in the bedroom until he called me to let him in, haha.
