Finding Your Style

A while back, while trying to figure out how to decorate our bedroom, I took a “find your style” quiz on homegoods.com.  The results were not surprising to me at all.  Here are the results:

I really love the colors that were chosen.  I’d also like to add white in there as well.  A lot of the colors decorating our apartment fall into that spectrum, minus the office.  The office, even though I use it more than Brett, was kind of my compromise with Brett to allow red into our home.  I don’t operate well with the color red, mostly because I feel too energized or something by it.  I definitely don’t want it in any place where we would sleep.

Yes, I am one of those freaks that believes that color can influence mood.  :)

I haven’t worked on any of my DIY projects that I had planned to do over Christmas break.  I need to prioritize my time and actually do something.  I would feel better if I got things accomplished.  Brett is also starting to nag at me about hanging things on the wall… which I don’t do without careful planning.  I’m a procrastinator, so I don’t want to even think about planning out where to hang things.

Brett grew up in a very santitary feeling home without pictures or decor on the wall (strange to me, someone who grew up with TOO much stuff decorating the house to the point of feeling cluttered), so he really values homey-things-on-the-wall decor while I would rather live in a white box with white linens and decorations, haha.  This is definitely a sticking point for us, and often times we get agitated toward each other about something silly like hanging crap on the walls!

Our bedroom has an overabundance of white, which makes me giddy and relaxed.  Brett says he likes it, but I don’t know if he’s being totally honest, haha.  When I suggest bringing in something white to hang on the walls, he gets a look on his face like, “Crap, more white?  How can you stand it?”  I do plan on making our headboard with grey-blue linen though, and perhaps sewing a few grey pillows.  I know it sounds boring to a lot of people, but since we live in a small space, I can’t make it feel smaller with dark colors.

What colors do you use to decorate your home?  Do you find you gravitate toward a certain color pallet like mine above (I truly would love to decorate our entire home in those colors, but I think Brett would die)?

My husband and I are in the middle of building a new home. So there’s LOTS of decisions to make. While I kinda know what I like, I’m still having trouble actually coming to a firm decision on the cabinets and counter tops, paint, etc. It’s great that you have a firm understanding of what you like. I think it would make this process a whole lot easier. One good thing, though, my husband and I tend to have the same taste, so the problem isn’t landing on things we like, it’s narrowing it down to the final choices.
